Tasting Washington Wine at Fielding Hills in Chelan

Last week my friend Wendy and I went for our first Fielding Hills Winery wine tasting. Such a gorgeous day in the Lake Chelan area – mostly sunny but not hot, a good amount of tourists still in town but not crowded.

Fielding Hills Winery is located at 565 South Lakeshore Rd, Chelan, WA 98816. (Locals would tell you “Turn left at Pat & Mike’s!”)

As we drove in, we noticed the vineyard netting covering the vines to protect them from birds. It’s almost harvest! An exciting and busy time of year for the wine industry.

The family grows grapes locally on their Estate Riverbend and Riverview Vineyards.

Fielding Hills Winery is just steps away from Siren Song – walk back and forth from one to the other on a little stone pathway.

The landscaping is just simply beautiful.

Wendy and I were looking forward to exploring the outdoors as well as the inside of the tasting room.

The Fielding Hills winery tasting room is spacious inside and out.

This was a fairly busy Sunday, so I tried to be discreet with my camera during our tasting. The tasting room staff didn’t quite know what to do with my Lake Chelan Wine Blog business card, which made me chuckle, but then the owner, Karen, came out to greet me. So glad I got to meet her!

My tasting began with the Fielding Hills 2018 Chenin Blanc. I was quite excited to taste this Chenin Blanc, as there are only a handful of Woodinville wineries making Chenin Blanc.

In between glass pours, we wandered outside to admire the view of Lake Chelan and the beautiful flowering bushes.

Back inside, my second tasting was the 2015 Estate Tribute red wine blend, heavy on the Merlot. I could immediately tell that I was probably going to leave this tasting room with a bunch of wine bottles!

My third tasting was the 2015 Estate Merlot. It has just a tiny bit of Syrah and Cab Sauv blended into it. Can’t wait to serve this at one of my dinner parties!

Outside, we admired the spacious lawn with lawn games and overlook. A group had just finished playing cornhole so I took the opportunity to snap this pic. Everywhere I looked, people were lounging on patio chairs, enjoying the wine and the happy atmosphere, and drinking in Lake Chelan sunshine.

I returned to the tasting room for my fourth tasting, the Estate Syrah. I’m not a big fan of Syrah but you know what – I bought a bottle of this to take home to share with friends. I’m pretty sure they will be blown away by it.

Visit the Fielding Hills website to learn more about the Wade family, their family history, the estate vineyards, and their wines. You can shop for Fielding Hills wine, and join the Road 27 Wine Club if you choose.
