Our Visit to Ancestry Cellars and Meeting Winemaker Jason Morin

Visiting Ancestry Cellars was a lovely experience, highlighted by our opportunity to meet and talk with owner/winemaker Jason Morin. Here is in the background chatting with Carrie about the family history that is at the root of Ancestry Cellars story.

We started things of with this 2018 Grandma Lila’s Rose was perfectly refreshing on a summer afternoon. This Sangiovese rose was named for Erin’s grandmother, who loved pink wine (me too!).  This rose is light and crisp with notes of pineapple and citrus rind and is 100% stainless steel fermented. I could see this pairing great with a grilled chicken salad and a strawberry-citrus dressing.

The 2015 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain had the aroma of blackberries and currants on the nose and a velvety finish. Carrie took a bottle of this home to put away in her cella.

Winemaker Jason Morin was a fabulous host. There were several other people that arrived at the tasting room while we were there, and he generously gave everyone his time and shared the story behind his wines.  We had a great experience!

I love this cute patio at the front of the Ancestry’s Mansion tasting room.  The vibe of this town is so relaxed and friendly, the epitome of this picture,  This patio is a fun spot to sit and enjoy a tasting with a group of friends.

I love the pops of color on the label of Ancestry’s 2018 Macheveau. Morin uses a carbonic maceration process for two-weeks prior to a short aging process in neutral oak. This process gives this unique Malbec a nose of spice and then blueberry and raspberry on the palate.  I noted a little bit of pepper in the finish, but it was very light.  I really enjoyed this wine! It’s sourced from Amos Rome vineyard.

There are plenty of seating options at Ancestry.  While I was there, I was reminded a little bit of a family-style Italian restaurant.  I think ties directly back to the family tradition that Ancestry Cellars is based upon. In October, Jason and Erin are hosting their Fall crush Library winemaker dinner with Chelan Valley native, chef Eduardo Moran.  You can peak at the incredible menu and purchase tickets to this fun event, here.

I brought home a bottle of this Merlot dominant 2015 La Soeur to set aside for another year or two (although it is ready to be enjoyed now!). La Soeur is named for the sisters in the family (not pictured here is the Le Frere, a cab dominant blend representing the brothers). I loved the smooth, fruit-forward aspect of this red wine. I would pair it with a grilled steak or roast.

You can visit Ancestry Cellars at their Manson tasting room during their regular hours Sunday, Monday and Thursday from 1-7, Tuesday and Weds from 1-5 and extended hour Friday and Saturday from noon-8. Their address is 50 Wapato Way, Manson, WA.

You will love the charm of downtown Manson and enjoy wonderful customer service from the Ancestry staff.  Let us know which of their wines is your favorite!
